Abstract

In the modern era of remote sensing, it has become inevitable to monitor, analyze, and discover changes in bodies of water. This study focuses on identifying optimal band combinations that yield the best results for the different water bodies. Detection of an element in a satellite image depends on composite band stability, which in turn depends on the interaction between the composite bands and the element in question. The locations chosen for evaluation in this study for testing the composite band were Dukan and Hamrin Lakes, and the results of the analysis against actual data from the Ministry of Water Resources were compared. Analysis of Landsat 8 imagery was carried out using remote sensing and GIS techniques. The selected periods for Hamrin Lake are July 2022, July 2023, October 2021, and October 2022, whereas numbers from November 2017 and November 2018 were selected for Dukan Lake. The discovery process concept will be used for maximum Likelihood classification and Mahalanobis distance classification. The composite bands will be Cb1: (5-4-3), Cb2: (5-6-4), Cb3: (6-5-4), Cb4: (6-5-3), Cb5: (6-5-2). The results revealed that the best band configuration for classifying water bodies was (564).
